Dr. Essary serves as Director of Student Affairs for the College of Health Solutions and Clinical Associate Professor in the School for the Science of Health Care Delivery at Arizona State University (ASU).
As Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Essary’s responsibilities include implementing student admissions and retention strategies and ensuring high-quality student engagement programs for approximately 5,000 students in the College of Health Solutions.
In the School for the Science of Health Care Delivery, Dr. Essary teaches graduate-level coursework in leadership and professionalism, and the U.S. health care system. Her research interests encompass primary care and prevention strategies, health services research, and the provision of accessible, high-quality, patient-centered health care. She has successfully submitted proposals for grants, publications, posters, and national presentations. In 2013, she was granted the Breitman-Dorn Fellowship in recognition of her research efforts.
Dr. Essary serves as Vice Chair, General Studies Council at Arizona State University, and represents the College of Health Solutions on the Graduate Dean’s Advisory Council, the Service Excellence Initiative and the Undergraduate Enrollment Planning Team. On a national level, she serves as a committee member for Collaborating across Borders (CAB), an international inter-professional healthcare association, a scientific reviewer for the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), grant review committee member for HRSA, and department editor for the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She has held leadership positions with both the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), and the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA). She holds a joint appointment as Clinical Associate Professor with the Northern Arizona University Department of Physician Studies. Prior to joining ASU, she served as Director at Midwestern University Physician Assistant Program, Phoenix.
